Pre-Primary FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

  1. Will my child automatically get into the Transition class if he/she is at John Mackenzie Pre-Primary?

Depending on your child's individual achievement and level of readiness, the infant staff will make a recommendation based on what is the best interest of the child. If we believe your child will cope in Transition, then we will offer your child a place in Transition. Should we find, that your child needs to consolidate Pre-Primary concepts further or need more time for maturity, then our recommendation will be that your child should spend another year at Pre-Primary.

  1. How will l know if my child is ready for Transition?

You and your Pre-Primary School teacher know your child best. Liaise with one another as it is in your child's best interest. If both of you feel that your child is ready for the next phase of school, then by all means apply for the Transition Assessment.

  1. If my child is sick, can you give him/her medicine?

No, we are not authorised to give any medication whatsoever.

  1. Can l leave my child at school until my older child finishes school?

No, the Pre-Primary finishes at 12:15pm and thereafter your child would not have supervision.
